The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) is requesting assistance in determining the impact of a proposed OSHA rule regulating the use of crystalline silica on their body shop operations. Information on the OSHA proposed rule is linked below. Please respond to the question below by Friday, January 24. All information will be aggregated.

The ASPA Board of Directors met prior to the Winter meeting to continue building ASPA to reflect the goal of the Alliance – to provide a unified industry voice for its members engaged in the automotive chemical and vehicle appearance product markets before state, regional and federal legislators and regulators. The Board filled several vacancies and voted to amend the term limits provision in the bylaws. Tom Weyenberg was elected to complete Jack Cunningham’s term and Jim Moffitt was elected to complete Richard Miller’s term. Tom Weyenberg was appointed to serve as Vice Chairman. The terms of Marc Blackman, Michelle Rudnick and Ken Saraniti were renewed. Also, the Board asks members to volunteer service on the Alliance committees: Program, Sponsorship and Membership. Please see 2013-2014 Board and Committee lists attached.

On April 14, the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) will hold a public workshop “for the purpose of discussing a possible regulatory action to change the existing regulation governing Proposition 65 warnings. If a regulation is eventually adopted, it would replace the existing OEHHA regulation.” Links to an OEHHA fact sheet, potential draft regulation, potential Initial Statement of Reasons and side by side comparison of the draft and current regulation are provided below. EPA is announcing that notifications of substantial risk under section 8(e) of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and voluntary For Your Information (FYI) submissions may now be filed electronically using EPA’s electronic document submission system, the Central Data Exchange (CDX). Per the Federal Register notice, “use of this electronic reporting option will streamline and reduce the administrative costs and burdens of submitting paper-based notifications of substantial risks and FYI submissions.” In addition, all information sent via the internet using CDX will be transmitted securely to protect Confidential Business Information (CBI).
